About the Center of Excellence for Chagas Disease

Dr. Sheba Meymandi founded the Center of Excellence for Chagas Disease (CECD) in 2007 as the first major treatment center in the U.S. In its 10-year history, the CECD has screened over 8,000 people and treated over 300, in addition to completing numerous scientific investigations on Chagas disease. The CECD partners with the Centers for Disease Control, Doctors without Borders, and Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative, and participates in various international Chagas disease forums.

The goal of the CECD is to identify and treat Chagas disease early, preventing its life-threatening complications. The CECD is housed within a county safety-net facility, the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, in Sylmar, California.
